New Rum Review: R.L. Seale’s 10-Year

May 19, 2014

Aloha kakou,

Today I’m back with another rum from Barbados. This time it’s R.L. Seale’s 10-Year Finest Barbados Rum, which is made by Richard Seale at the Foursquare Distillery. It’s hard not to be somewhat familiar with this rum. If you haven’t yet tasted it, you have probably seen the oddly shaped bottle on the shelf and wondered what the contents tasted like. Well wonder no more friend, for my complete review awaits you here.

Cheers,
Josh

New Rum Review: Doorly’s XO

April 3, 2014

Aloha folks,

Today I’m back with another rum from Barbados: Doorly’s XO. Produced by R.L. Seale at Foursquare Rum on Barbados, this is a classic representation of the Bajan rum style. Good enough to sip, and inexpensive enough to mix, this is a rum that can find a home in just about any bar. Read the review here and see what I mean.

Mahalo for reading as always!

February 7, 2014

Aloha!

If you’ve read my previous articles on the subject, you already know I’m mad for amari–those bitter liqueurs popularized by the Italians in the 19th century. If you’re of like mind, you’re in for a treat, because today we take a break from rum to examine nine more amari, tell you what they taste like, what to make with them, and where to buy them online.

Click here to read the article.

Salute!
Josh

PS. If you need a primer before jumping into Amaro 103, Advanced Amari, you can go back and read Amaro 101 and Amaro 102.

What’s the Best Spiced Rum?

December 23, 2013

Aloha kakou, and Mele Kalikimaka!

People often ask me “What’s the best spiced rum?” and up until this weekend, I would have answered “I don’t know” because I’d only tried a handful. Well, I know now, because over the weekend I blind-tasted twenty-two different spiced rums! I drank the bad rum so you don’t have to–consider it my Christmas present to you.

Check out the article here and see which spiced rum won the Spiced Rum Challenge!

New Rum Review: Hamilton St. Lucian 7-Year

December 16, 2013

Aloha folks,

I’ve been working overtime on reviews lately, and today I’m back with a new rum from Ed Hamilton. You probably know him from the Ministry of Rum Web site, but Ed also imports rum from Martinique and elsewhere in the Caribbean. He’s recently launched his own line of rums from St. Lucia and Jamaica, and today we take a look at the St. Lucia 7-Year pot still rum bottled at 46.5% ABV. There is also a cask strength version of this one. It’s a very unique rum that should wow those of you who enjoy bold rum with an attitude.

Read the review here.

Cheers,
Josh

Yes, the St. George team is ready to make another batch of their famous California Agricole Rum. This is a truly special rum made from fresh-pressed California sugar cane. I took several pictures of the process and even have a review for you. It’s not to be missed!
